| Rumour has it that scenes from the movie
"Slap Shot" (featuring a bus-load of booster club members
following the team to their road games) were based on Vancouver Canucks
Booster Club road trips to Seattle during the WHL days. We may never
know the complete story.
It is true, however, that the members of the Vancouver
Canucks Booster Club travel on the road to cheer on the Canucks. It
is also true that these treks took place during the WHL days when
you could take a bus to a rival arena. Today, however, we prefer to
fly when we visit other cities.
In February 2004, several boosters flew
out to Edmonton to watch a thrilling, though disappointing, overtime
loss to the Oilers.
Since 1988-89, the Vancouver
Canucks Booster Club has travelled to:
Calgary (by bus and by plane a bunch of
times)
Edmonton (once, the Canucks tied the game
with two seconds left)
Los Angeles (Pat Quinn's first game as
the Canucks' coach)
Chicago (the last Canuck game in Chicago
Stadium)
Detroit (we were treated to a pizza party
in the Joe)
Toronto (we've been there twice and won
both times)
Montreal (the last Canuck game in the Montreal
Forum)
Boston (the first Canuck game in the FleetCenter)
Hartford (hey, we were in the area anyway)
Each season when the NHL schedule comes
out, we plan two or three trips to see the Canucks on the road. Booster
club members receive the option to book these trips before they are
open to the general public. Join now to get to the front of the line for next season's
trips. |
